It’s official. Google confirmed the rumour that the latest version of Android 8.0 is indeed named after a biscuit we all know. It’s the second time in Android’s history to have a commercial partnership; this time Google partnered with Nabsico.

Android Oreo is ready!

As you know, every time Google releases a new version of Android, the phone manufacturers have to layer their UI/skin on top of the release. This takes a lot of effort. That’s why initially only a handful devices will get the update.

Below are the 12 phones which get the latest Android update before all others. Check if your smart phone made it to the list.

1Google Pixel, Google Nexus

The original Google devices Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player and Pixel C tablets will receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update before other phones. If you are using Pixel and Pixel XL smart phones, you might already be running the Android 8.0 Oreo beta.

2Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6

HMD Global which is producing Nokia branded phones announced that they will release the Android 8.0 Oreo update to their latest Nokia3, 5 and 6 smart phones. Nokia may be one of first the non-Google brands to release the update. One has to wait and see if HMD global can keep up in fulfilling the promise.

3OnePlus Phones

Android flagship phone maker OnePlus confirmed that their latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 5 will receive Android 8.0 Oreo update. OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T are also lined up to receive the update. By the end of the year, all OnePlus smartphones will be running on Android 8.0 Oreo.

4Coolpad Cool Play 6

If you are a Coolpad Cool Play 6 owner then you might have to wait until December to receive the Android Oreo update. It is heartening to know that Coolpad is building a team of 500 people especially for the overseas market and the history of irregular updates will not be repeated. It looks like Coolpad doesn’t have any plans to update their old UI. It means if you are using one of older Coolpad phones, you may not receive the update for Android Oreo.

5Essential PH-1

The co-founder of Android, Andy Ruben’s brain child Essential PH-1 was released in the US a couple of months back. But the availability of the phone is very limited which means the no.of users are also less. But Essential is one of the companies that worked on Android 8.0 and the Essential PH-1 phone will soon receive the Oreo update.

HTC U11 will be updated to Android Oreo soon. The recently launched HTC smart phones U Ultra, HTC U Playalong with the earlier smartphones HTC 10, HTC 10 Evo, HTC Desire 10 Pro and HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle will also receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update. The catch: nobody knows when the update will be released!

Though the giant Samsung didn’t release any list of phones which will receive the update, it is widely speculated that the models Samsung Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition and the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo.

The Asus phones which receive the update are believed to be ZenFone 4, ZenFone 4 Pro, ZenFone 4 Max, ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 Deluxe, ZenFone 3 Max and ZenFone 3 Laser.

Sony might send the Oreo update to the Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia Xzs, Xperia XZ, Xperia X Compact, Xperia X Performance, Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra smartphones. But nothing is confirmed by Sony for now, so it might be a popular rumour.

Lenovo recently released K8 Note and it runs on a near stock android. This makes it very easy for Lenovo to release the Android 8.0 Oreo update to the phone. If you are Lenovo Phab series user, then be ready for a rude shock. Lenovo is not releasing any updates for that.

Moto phones run on stock android. This is why Moto phones will remain the most updated ones as it’s very easy to release an update. The flagship Moto Z2 Play will receive the update soon.

LG’s recent smartphone like the LG G6 and LG Q6 are sure to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update. It is a rumour that the LG G5 and LG V20 will be updated to Oreo as well. When? Nobody knows though!
